39 Nhưng các ngươi có lệ thường, hễ đến ngày lễ Vượt-qua, thì ta tha cho các ngươi một tên tù, vậy các ngươi có muốn ta tha Vua dân Giu-đa cho chăng?40 Chúng bèn kêu lên nữa rằng: Đừng tha nó, nhưng tha Ba-ra-ba! Vả, Ba-ra-ba là một kẻ trộm-cướp.

13 Pilate then called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,14 and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him.15 Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him.16 I will therefore punish and release him.”18 But they all cried out together, “Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”—19 a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city and for murder.20 Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus,21 but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!”22 A third time he said to them, “Why, what evil has he done? I have found in him no guilt deserving death. I will therefore punish and release him.”

6 Now at the feast he used to release for them one prisoner for whom they asked.7 And among the rebels in prison, who had committed murder in the insurrection, there was a man called Barabbas.8 And the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them.9 And he answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?”10 For he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up.11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead.12 And Pilate again said to them, “Then what shall I do with the man you call the King of the Jews?”13 And they cried out again, “Crucify him.”14 And Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.”

15 Phàm đến ngày lễ Vượt-qua, quan tổng-đốc thường có lệ tha một tên tù tùy ý dân muốn.16 Đang lúc ấy, có một tên phạm nổi tiếng, tên là Ba-ra-ba.17 Khi chúng đã nhóm lại, thì Phi-lát hỏi rằng: Các ngươi muốn ta tha người nào, Ba-ra-ba hay là Jêsus gọi là Christ?18 Vì quan ấy biết bởi lòng ghen-ghét nên chúng đã nộp Ngài. ---_19 Quan tổng-đốc đương ngồi trên tòa án, vợ người sai thưa cùng người rằng: Đừng làm gì đến người công-bình đó; vì hôm nay tôi đã bởi cớ người mà đau-đớn nhiều trong chiêm-bao._---20 Song các thầy tế-lễ cả và các trưởng-lão dỗ chúng hãy xin tha Ba-ra-ba và giết Đức Chúa Jêsus.21 Quan tổng-đốc cất tiếng hỏi rằng: Trong hai người nầy, các ngươi muốn ta tha ai? Chúng thưa rằng: Ba-ra-ba.22 Phi-lát nói rằng: Vậy, còn Jêsus gọi là Christ, thì ta sẽ xử thế nào? Chúng đều trả lời rằng: Đóng đinh nó trên cây thập-tự!23 Quan hỏi: Song người nầy đã làm việc dữ gì? Chúng lại kêu-la lớn hơn rằng: Đóng đinh nó trên cây thập-tự!
