Passing By on the Jericho Road

A robed traveler hurries along a rocky wilderness road while a beaten man lies stripped and wounded on the ground behind him. The barren ravine, desert shrubs, and harsh path evoke the road from Jerusalem to Jericho in Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan. This moment reflects the priest or Levite who sees the injured man and passes by, exposing the failure of outward religion when it withholds mercy. In Luke 10, Jesus answers the question, “Who is my neighbor?” by contrasting neglect with the compassion of the Samaritan who stops, binds wounds, and provides care. The scene is suited for teaching on mercy, hypocrisy, neighborly love, compassion ministry, and the call to “go and do likewise.”
